Acetylacetone is an organic compound, abbreviated Hacac, whose standard name is 2,4-pentanedione. It is a bidentate ligand and has many uses in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Acetylacetone has the tautomerism of enols and ketones: Acetylacetone can be obtained by acylation of acetone with acetic anhydride in the presence of boron trifluoride. It can also be made by condensation of acetone and ethyl acetate.
